MOUNTAIN GETAWAY

Clear rivers, stone-and-wood cottages, and easy trail days.

Tirthan Valley and Jibhi are the kind of places where you naturally slow down. Unlike crowded tourist towns with honking cars and noisy markets, here the loudest sound you'll hear is the Tirthan River rushing over round river stones. Days start with misty pine views and end with the faint scent of pine wood in the crisp evening air.

This 4-day trip covers everything that makes the valley so memorable—from walking across Jibhi's hidden wooden footbridges and exploring the 1,500-year-old tower of Chehni Kothi, to crossing windy Jalori Pass and sitting beside the calm waters of Serolsar Lake. It is an easy-going trip packed with genuine mountain charm.

THE EXPERIENCE

Cold river streams, pine forests & centuries-old wooden architecture

Jibhi Jalori Pass Tirthan Valley Chehni Kothi
DAY BY DAY

Your 4-day valley escape,
step by step.

A relaxed, well-balanced itinerary with plenty of time to enjoy every spot.

You'll arrive at the Aut tunnel early in the morning via overnight Volvo from Delhi, where our cab driver will be waiting to receive you. Drive along the scenic Banjar valley route for about an hour and a half to reach Jibhi.

Check into your riverside wooden cottage or family-run homestay. After breakfast and some rest, take an easy walk down to the Jibhi Waterfall. The path crosses small wooden footbridges over bubbling streams, surrounded by tall pine trees. Spend the afternoon wandering through Jibhi village, stopping by small local cafés for coffee or local siddu, and sitting by the river. Dinner is served warm at your stay, followed by a quiet night in the hills.

After breakfast, we head up the winding mountain road to Jalori Pass (10,800 ft). On clear days, the pass offers sweeping views across the ridge. From here, we begin our 5 km hike to the sacred Serolsar Lake.

The trail takes you under a thick canopy of oak and pine trees. The walk is gentle and scenic, leading right up to the calm waters of Serolsar Lake. Beside the lake stands the revered stone temple of Mata Budhi Nagin. Grab a cup of hot ginger-lemon tea from the local shacks, soak in the quiet energy of the place, and walk back to Jalori Pass by mid-afternoon. We head back down to Jibhi for a warm bonfire, good food, and a relaxed evening.

Today we explore the heart of Tirthan Valley. After breakfast, we drive down towards Gushaini and take a short 45-minute hike up through apple orchards and pine trees to Chhoie (Choi) Waterfall. The cool mountain spray is the perfect refresher.

Next, we head towards Bagi village to visit Chehni Kothi—a towering multi-storey fort built over 1,500 years ago using only interlocking stone and deodar wood without any cement. The architecture and valley views from here are remarkable. We also stop by the ancient Shringa Rishi Temple nearby. Spend the late afternoon sitting on the pebble banks of the Tirthan River, watching trout fish swim in the clear water. Head back to your cottage for dinner.

Enjoy a slow breakfast by the river and listen to the birds. Pack your bags and take a morning walk along the gate trail of the Great Himalayan National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The forest trail here is rich in moss, wild flowers, and birdlife.

Before leaving, browse the local roadside shops for pure wild honey, handmade woolen socks, or apple preserves. In the late afternoon, we drive you back to the Aut bus stand so you can board your evening Volvo back to Delhi, carrying home the calm of the valley.
